Entmoot Academy
  • Welcome to the Entmoot!
  • What Is an Entmoot?

The Entmoot Academy Homeschool site is a repository of homeschooling links grouped by category which can be found in the Compendium of Resources. It is my hope that you find the resources you need as you grow through your homeschooling journey.  I have a lot more links to add, and will be trying to update as I'm able.  Do you have a website you think I should add?  Submit it here.

Okay, what is an entmoot? In J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, an ent is a shepherd of the trees. An entmoot is a meeting of the ents to discuss issues. When we first started homeschooling, I asked my husband to come up with a name, and that's what he came up with. It has stuck. Even though we like Tolkien's writings, and have named our cats and homeschool after characters in the books, we are not obsessed with Lord of the Rings. We are totally devoted followers of the Risen Saviour Christ Jesus. Everything that we do, we do for His glory, including homeschooling our three children.

A Call to Make a Difference

The world system may seem out of control, but there are answers for those who seek them.  Here you will find resources to inform, to provide answers to those sticky questions many have wrestled with, and to bring hope in to a world that seems to be spiraling out of control.  I've pulled together information from several sources in each of the categories listed on the right.  There are more issues I feel are important that I will add as time allows.  Your comments and suggestions are always welcomed.

The Sanctity of Human Life

Most Christians would at least give lip service to the idea that human life is sacred. Indeed, after a generation of fighting over issues such as abortion, stem cells, and euthanasia, “the sanctity of life” has become a slogan wielded by many Christians as justification for their positions. But sometimes little thought goes into that slogan. It is assumed that “everyone” knows what “sanctity of life” means.1 Yet the concept is actually much more complex in its origins and its implications than is commonly understood. And it won’t be sufficient for Christians to continue mouthing a slogan without thinking through what it means and how it really affects our worldview.

Life—a Gift from God

I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly, I will not give a woman an abortive remedy.

 – The Hippocratic Oath

These words, penned approximately four centuries before Christ, still hold immense relevance today. Hippocrates, often considered to be the father of medicine, was a student of Ancient Greek philosophy and reasoning. Hippocrates' 'Oath' encapsulated the position of many of the Greek philosophers in condemning suicide, notably Pythagoras, and became the standard of ethics for doctors to follow.

Answers in Genesis just published the video Cloning, Stem Cells, and the Value of Life on their website.  It's almost an hour long, but totally worth every minute.  In this compelling "hot topics" video, popular speaker Mike Riddle examines the biblical and scientific perspectives on the issue of stem cell research. It gives you a lot of information about cloning and stem cells (embryonic vs. adult) that the media doesn't tell you.
